Christmas around the World

6 Days

DC7124 Dec 2 to Dec 7, 2017

Day 1 Lewisburg, PA
Our departure this morning takes us through the Niagara Peninsula to New York State. We travel through Appalachian Mountain country to Lewisburg PA. Dinner is included this evening. (D)

Day 2 Washington, DC
Today we travel to Baltimore Maryland. Here we visit the Christmas Village. Similar to a German Christmas market, the large heated tent includes a Bavarian style food court, and over 50 international vendors selling ornaments and high-quality arts and crafts from all over the world. Outdoors a 21' high Christmas tree is surrounded by an additional 12 wooden booths and thousands of twinkling lights! Next we are off to the Rawlings Conservatory Holiday Poinsettia Display where you will see hundreds of exquisite and unusual poinsettia specimens that are produced in the greenhouses at Cylburn Arboretum. Later we arrive at the Gaylord National Resort for a three night stay. The balance of the evening is at your leisure to explore this amazing resort. Get in the spirit of the season as you discover the unique and festive décor including more than two million lights that illuminate the soaring, glass atrium and outdoor garden areas. Hear a heartwarming narration of the classic Christmas story and enjoy Christmas Carols synchronized with choreographed water and lights. It's always 72 degrees in the atrium, so you won't believe your eyes when it begins to snow inside! (B)

Day 3
After a full breakfast, we experience ICE! Travel the globe and experience the magic and traditions of Christmas Around the World in more than two million pounds of ice! Walk thru this classic Christmas story, and watch artisans as they create these frozen marvels in The Frostbite Factory, a LIVE ice carving zone. Later there’s time to shop and explore the delightful shops of National Harbor. See the Tree of Light, suspended from the center of the atrium; a 60-foot-tall Christmas tree made entirely of synthetic “candy” glass. By day, it looks like a spectacular stained-glass window and glows brilliantly at night!
Mid-afternoon we depart for Columbia and Toby’s Dinner Theatre but first we make a stop at the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, one of the grandest churches in America. Later, enjoy a buffet style dinner followed by the presentation of “A Miracle on 34th Street”. After the show see the spectacular display of 70 larger-than-life, animated and stationary light creations as we drive your coach through the Symphony of Lights! We return to the Resort for the night. (B,D)

Day 4
Enjoy a full breakfast and a morning at your leisure. Lunch is on your own at the Resort before we make our way to Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Botanical Gardens where you find amazing poinsettia displays and Christmas exhibits including the return of a special model train display. Not to be missed is the National Christmas Tree in the Ellipse across from the White House. Pageant of Peace, a walkway surrounding the Tree features 56 state and territory trees decorated with handmade ornaments that are unique to each tree. A tradition that began with President Calvin Coolidge over 90 years ago continues and is one of the most beloved holiday events in Washington DC. Before returning to the Resort, we visit Washington DC’s Temple Festival of Lights. See a life-sized outdoor nativity, listen to a live musical performance, and experience over 600,000 lights and tree displays from around the world. (B)

Day 5 Scranton, PA
This morning we say goodbye to Washington and travel to one of the Brandywine Valley's most spectacular holiday showcases, Yuletide at Winterthur. We will tour Henry Francis du Pont's dazzling former home decorated in holiday style. Enjoy visions of holidays past and discover exquisitely decorated Christmas trees, such as the majestic dried-flower tree! Later we continue to Scranton for the night. A farewell dinner is included this evening. (B,D)

All too soon our special Christmas holiday tour comes to an end. We return home filled with the Spirit of the Season. (D)
