ON8074 Jul 25, 2018 to Jul 30, 2018

Day 1 North Bay, ON
From our local joining points we begin our journey to discover the scenic regions and rich diversity of Ontario’s North Country. Our first stop will be in Orillia for a lunch cruise on Lake Couchiching aboard the Island Princess. Later we continue through the heart of the Muskoka’s and on to the city of North Bay, often called the “Gateway to the North”. (L)

Day 2 Cochrane, ON
Today our travels take us further north to the community of Cochrane. Before leaving North Bay, we visit the Canadian Forces Museum of Aerospace and Defense, a facility that strives to inspire a deeper understanding and connection to Canada’s historical and current contributions to air defense by creating lasting connections to the history and artifacts. On arrival in Cochrane we pay a visit to the Tim Hortons Museum. Famous for donuts and as a defenseman for the Toronto Maple Leafs. This small but intimate Museum has more than 800 heirlooms portraying Horton’s hockey accomplishments, featuring photos, books, jerseys and 568 pucks, representing the number of regular season and playoff points the hockey legend scored in the National Hockey League. We check into our hotel for a two night stay. Dinner is included this evening. (B,D)

Day 3 Cochrane, ON
After a delicious breakfast, we set out for the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat, the largest, and the only human care facility in the world dedicated solely to polar bears. With 7 hectares of pristine, natural environment categorized as sub-arctic, the habitat also features the world’s largest enclosed lake that provides an ice platform for up to 7 months of the year. Currently the home of Ganuk and Henry, the Polar Bear Habitat is world renowned for its ability to lengthen the lives of polar bears in captivity, while providing them environments as close as possible to their natural habitat. Just steps away from the Polar Bear Habitat is the Heritage Village. Take a trip back in time to the early 1900’s, when Cochrane was being settled. You’ll find a General Store, Butcher Shop, Doctor’s Office, Blacksmith’s Shop, Fire Station, School House and a Trapper’s Cabin. A light lunch is included at the Habitat. (B,L)

Day 4 Timmins, ON
Today we experience another aspect of the unique heritage of the North! Enjoy more of the scenic northern Ontario landscapes as we travel to the town of Kapuskasing. Here we experience The Lumberjack Heritage Festival celebrating the pioneer families who carved a thriving community out of the unforgiving wilderness of Northern Ontario. The festival showcases lumberjacks, local heritage, entertainment and more. Enjoy time here before we continue to Timmins. On arrival we visit the Timmins Museum National Exhibition Centre, a facility dedicated to the presentation, promotion and preservation of heritage and culture. Our nights lodging is in Timmins overlooking the beautiful Mattagami River. (B)

Day 5 Sudbury, ON
This morning a short drive takes us to the city of Sudbury. Built on mining, the city is home to Science North and Dynamic Earth, where you will find the Big Nickel, an earth sciences centre, and featuring two floors of galleries, an HD digital theatre and an underground tour. The majority of our afternoon is spent exploring this amazing attraction. Overnight in Sudbury. Dinner is included at the hotel. (B,D)

Day 6 Home
Our morning begins with a visit to Science North, the second largest science centre in Canada, featuring an IMAX® theatre, digital Planetarium, butterfly gallery and Special Exhibits Hall. IMAX presentation is included with our visit.
