Thousands of poinsettias, spectacular evergreens, fragrant trees, decorated wreaths and 19th centure style oranments turn the house and the grounds into a Christmas wonderland. You will be at your leisure for lunch and shopping along the waterfront at Bowen's Wharf and Bannister's Wharf. Mid afternoon we will enjoy a tradional High Tea at the Hotel Viking. Tonight be prepared to be dazzled by twinkling white lights, as we include a Holiday Evening at The Breakers Mansion for an included tour as it’s decorated in all it’s Yuletide finery. Day 4 Newport, RI
A later breakfast and mid morning we depart for Audrain Automobile Museum, which celebrates the Machine Age, when art and automobiles came together. With access to more than 200 of the most remarkable and rare vehicles ever made, the Museum takes pride in its ability to display automobiles from 1899 to modern day. Lunch on your own before a self guided audio tour of Marble House. Marble House was built between 1888 and 1892 for Mr. and Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt. It was a summer house, or "cottage", as Newporters called them in remembrance of the modest houses of the early 19th century. But Marble House was much more; it was a social and architectural landmark that set the pace for Newport's subsequent transformation from a quiet summer colony of wooden houses to the legendary resort of opulent stone palaces. Dinner included this evening. (B,D)
