Start your adventure into Canada’s pre-Confederation past by visiting the Discovery Centre, a state-of-the-art interactive exhibit that tells fascinating stories about life in the 1860s. See an audio-visual show about the national importance of the Battle of Crysler's Farm and the War of 1812 before setting out on your self-guided tour of the village. Using your site map, stroll through the streets of yesterday. Visit over 40 heritage buildings and come face-to-face with a variety of costumed historical interpreters, all eager to chat or demonstrate their roles in 19th century society. Horse-drawn wagon and boat rides are also available at no extra charge. We continue to Québec City for the next 2 night stay. (B)

Day 3 Québec City, QC
After breakfast, a sightseeing tour of Quebec City, one of the oldest European settlements in North America and the only walled city north of Mexico. See the Château Frontenac, a hotel which dominates the skyline, the Citadelle of Quebec, an intact fortress that forms the centrepiece of the ramparts surrounding the old city, the Plains of Abraham and more. The tour ends with a guided walk through Place Royale after which you are free to explore at leisure for the balance of the day. Ride the funicular that takes you to the shops and sights around the Chateau including Artists Alley, or enjoy a stroll along the boardwalk for an amazing view of the St. Lawrence below. This evening enjoy dinner on your own at the hotel or at one of the many restaurants and cafes of Old Quebec. (B)

Day 4 Tadoussac, QC
A scenic drive takes us along the Beaupre Coast, past Montmorency Falls to the historic community of Tadoussac, set at the confluence of the St. Lawrence and Saguenay Rivers. This afternoon, we venture out into the St. Lawrence on a Whale Watch Cruise to get a glimpse of these graceful giants. This evening an extraordinary buffet dinner in the dining room of this historic hotel. (B,D)

Day 5 Chicoutimi, QC
This morning we travel into the fjord district to Chicoutimi. The name comes from the Montagnais “Shkoutimeou” which means “the end of the deep waters”. On arrival in Chicoutimi we visit La Pulperie de Chicoutimi, a facility that highlights the significant part this company played in the development of the city and the region at the beginning of the last century. After lunch we travel a short distance to La Baie and the Musée du Fjord. Winner of numerous awards for excellence, the Museum opens the door to the marine world of the Saguenay Fjord. It is also a laboratory, and a place of learning and wonder where the rich history and science of the area is explored. Quebec is also well known for its unique variety of cheeses. See this on a visit to the Fromagerie Boivin. We return to Chicoutimi for a two-night stay. (B)

Day 6 Chicoutimi, QC
Today we explore the amazing sights of the Saguenay fjords! The scenery is so awe-inspiring! In this beautiful region, nature used its colossal strength to create a magnificent fjord. We travel to Ste.-Rose-du-Nord, renowned as the Pearl of the Fjord where you have time to explore this picturesque village and enjoy a box lunch prior to boarding the vessel. See the Statue Notre-Dame du Saguenay and hear the legend that gave birth to the concept. Navigating the fjord to Bay Éternité is where you will see the steepest caps of the Fjord and you will definitely want to keep an eye open for plenty of marine live as we return to Ste.-Rose-du-Nord. A set of binoculars would be an asset to your adventure! (B,L)

Day 7 St. Félicien, QC
Today we travel further into the heart of the Saguenay/Lac Saint-Jean region to Val Jalbert Historical Village for a journey into the heart of the 1920s! Experience life as it was in a genuine company town complete with forty original period buildings. The convent school, general store and pulp mill abound in secrets that will be revealed by many colourful characters. You will also see the 236ft Ouiatchouan waterfall before we continue along the shores of Lac Saint Jean to the community of St. Félicien. Here we visit the St. Felicien Planetarium. Dinner is included at the hotel. (B,D)

Day 8 Montréal, QC
A leisurely drive takes us through the communities of Lac Bouchette, La Tuque and on to the city of Shawinigan, home town of former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien. Here we visit a unique museum dedicated not to a Prime Minister but to the gifts given to Jean Chrétien during his 10 years as Prime Minister.
This incredible collection highlights Canada's place in the world. As well, the items offer a portal into the arcane world of diplomatic gift-swapping. The $2.6 million facility includes over 700 pieces from dignitaries and heads of state, including a clock from the Queen and a wall hanging from Nelson Mandela, along with offerings from Canadians. We continue to Montréal for the night. A farewell dinner is included this evening. (B,D)
