The Passion Play Performance at Oberammergau, Upper Bavaria
14 Days ~ May 11th - 24th 2020
Visiting Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Liechtenstein

Experience the 42nd “Oberammergau Passion Play” performed at the Passion Theatre, an open-air stage with majestic mountains in the background creating an unforgettable scene. Oberammergau is a quaint Bavarian village located in Germany 60 miles from Munich. In 1633 the citizens of this small picturesque town voted to perform "The Passion of Christ" every decade if their town was spared the devastation of the black plague that was spreading throughout all of Europe. It is believed that this play was first performed in 1634 and has indeed been held every 10 years since the promise was made.

The play follows the life and death of Christ from the moment he enters Jerusalem through His Trial, Crucifixion, and Ascension and is performed by over 2,000 people who must be residents of the town to participate. The play has 124 speaking roles, a 65-member orchestra, 48 person chorus and hundreds of support people from costuming to technical expertise. The entire production is authentic from men growing their hair and beards and authentic handmade costumes, something to be experienced at least once in a lifetime.
In 2020 "The Passion of Christ" play in Oberammergau is expected to draw 750,000 people. Come be part of this exceptional opportunity and witness this amazing promise performed in its native German. This play is so powerful that there is no language barrier just pure passion and emotion that is felt not only by the townspeople performing but by the thousands of spectators in the audience.

An opportunity that comes once every 10 Years…
Come be part of the story, May 2020

Nearly 400 years ago the history of the Passion Play began. The plague raged in many parts of Europe and did not spare Oberammergau either.
